Sukanya specializes in environmental valuation and works in the area of water economics and other diverse areas of application in environmental economics. She has an expertise economic assessment of investments in projects, measures, policies and public action programs. She has an expertise of implementing mixed methods (qualitative and quantitative) of data collection to assess the socio-economic feasibility of study sites and do a comprehensive cost-benefit analysis of options for wastewater re-use within existing institutional configurations.
She has been involved with two international joint research projects Indo-EU project named SARASWATI 2.0, SARASWATI and NSF project titled Investigating the Potential for Decentralized Institutions, Technologies, and Governance to Meet the Wastewater Challenge. She is a member of several environment associations-European Association of Environmental and Resource Economists (EAERE), South Asian Network for Development and Environmental Economics (SANDEE), Indian Society for Ecological Economics( INSEE), International Water Resource Economics Consortium(IWREC), Water Science and Policy Center, University of California, Riverside. She has several journal publication in the area of environmental valuation and several book chapters also in the given area.
